My little garden has fallen silent. The birds have left. Only the occasional hopeful checking out the bird table for crumbs. There are none. I have removed, washed and stored the feeders in the garage.
I miss the tweeting, the fluttering back and forth. The odd quarrel and spat. Shall I ever be able to feed the birds again without attracting vermin? Now if they were hedgehogs!
The man from the Council is coming tomorrow to check out the rat scenario.
I gave the kitchen a good clean and started to tidy up the dining room.
The seed compost came but I didn't sow the seeds today.
When I was sorting out the dining room boxes I found some jigsaws. Here are four - they are available for loan.

The UK’s coronavirus frontline has switched from hospitals to care homes, according to sector leaders who have dismissed Boris Johnson’s claim that the virus has been “wrestled to the floor” as premature.
Deaths in some of the largest care home networks have surged by more than 70% in the last week or two, operators said on Monday. Official figures due on Tuesday are expected to show a significant increase.
In the week ending 19 April, 651 of the 682 coronavirus outbreaks reported across the whole of England were in care homes, Public Health England (PHE) reported.
Leaders in the sector have demanded greater medical help and said the peak of social care fatalities is yet to come.
Care UK reported 244 Covid-19 deaths in its facilities, a 74% rise in six days, including 18 deaths in a single home in north London where a care worker also died.

The Moulin du Clout had a plentiful supply of apple trees, mostly of unknown variety and variable quality. However, that didn't stop us putting some of them to good use. We bought an apple press from the local farm shop and started to make apple juice. Above are Matthew and Jim involved in the hard work. The process involved chopping and mashing them first and if it all looks a bit primitive and unhygienic - it was. The mashings were put into the press and after a great deal of effort some juice was made. Andre was given the job of chief bottle-washer.
Here are Matthew, Andre and Jim drinking the reward. They suffered no ill effects!
