The day started with tears. When Joni rang me she said something bad had happened. The fox had got the ducks. The chickens were okay he must have missed them or planned to return later. Anyway, she was understandably upset. I remember when the fox got into our hen run at Whitechapel. It was in the middle of the afternoon and I was at home revising for an OU exam the following day. I heard the commotion in the hen run and ran out side to find the chickens running around and trying to hide but all the while squawking "I'm here! I'm here! The fox killed two - talking one of them away - the other we had for dinner ourselves. Well, we are not vegetarian.
Finished off eight more masks which I gave to Sheila for Longmeadow Court and cut out another batch. I hope the elastic comes soon.
Identified the leaves from a neighbours plot on the allotments as Meadowsweet Filipendula ulmaria, which I am surprised that I didn't recognise when he asked me. Of course, if the flowers had been present it would have been easy.
I was just writing the piece above when an almighty crash came from upstairs. Jasper and I looked at each other. He was nervous - was he going to have to act the man of the house? I knew what it was. Another picture had fallen off the wall. I had been using a sticky tape method for hanging pictures. It does not work. This is the fourth one to fall and this time a huge mess of splintered glass, but no other damage, thank goodness.

The UK's daily figure for coronavirus deaths has dropped to 170 - the lowest since the day after lockdown began.
The announcement comes a week after the first easing of restrictions in England - and while numbers are typically lower on Sundays, the figure is almost 100 fewer than the 268 reported a week ago.
But the overall death toll remains the highest in Europe, and is now 34,636.
The UK death numbers announced on Sundays and Mondays are typically lower than the other five days of the week, due to fluctuations in how quickly deaths are reported by hospitals and care homes.

This is the view I get every morning when I awake. Jasper sleeps on the end of my bed. It is mutually comforting and in the winter I don't need a hot water bottle. In the background you can see my 'Wedding Wall'. I have here a collection of photographs of family weddings. The earliest group is during the first World War - some relatives of Jim's - just out of sight. The one that fell off this evening is to the left of that - my brother Robert and Karen's wedding. Ah, well!
