Day 48 Victory in Europe Day

Notes for new readers - as this is a diary the first entry is the last, so you get to know 'who done it' before the crime is committed! This is a pain but can't be helped. After a week of entries the scrolling will stop and if you want to venture further click on 'OLDER POSTS' and read until you get to the first entry 'The Day Before Day 1

Granddaughter Joni expressed worries about how I was coping with lockdown and the possibility of it lasting several more weeks when she rang this morning. I replied that apart from being unable to go to bridge, keepfit and the occasional meal or drinks with friends life hadn't changed that much for me. It is true that I am used to my own company and have plenty at home to amuse and occupy me. If I didn't have to think how different the situation is for a lot of people in this crisis I would say that i was perfectly happy. I am looking forward to seeing my family again soon but they have all kept up regular contact with me, for which I am grateful, and hope that we all survive intact.
Today is Victory in Europe Day.
I spent quite a long time online this morning looking at photographs taken during the Blitz which someone had posted on Facebook. Here are a couple:

Went down to the allotment to give everything a good water. The beans are coming along nicely - must thin them out a bit, though and the tomatoes are coming into flower.
On our return home I found a small street party going on outside the front so I got myself a chair and a G&T and joined them. Spoke a bit with my new neighbour, Jordan. Apparently he works at Hensol Castle making Gin! What a neighbour to have. Met the lady who recently moved in to No 20, she seemed nice but I have forgotten her name already. I think we are going to have another 'do' at the end of lockdown when social distancing won't be such an issue.
Yesterday was my grandson Ben's 14th birthday. I sent him as an extra present two of Jim's hand-painted silk ties. Here he is wearing one of them:

Another of Mathew's paper mache items. This is on my bathroom wall and matches the orange floor and ceiling. Love it!
