Notes for new readers - as this is a diary the first entry is the last, so you get to know 'who done it' before the crime is committed! This is a pain but can't be helped. After a week of entries the scrolling will stop and if you want to venture further click on 'OLDER POSTS' and read until you get to the first entry 'The Day Before Day 1
A lot of patchwork sewing today. I have started on the seat cushion. I know I haven't finished the back cushion yet but I have got to a tricky patch with that and I wanted to do something less demanding this morning.
I got rather annoyed with the woman from the Council Pest Control Dept today who rang me to say they have taken Vince off my case for more urgent work elsewhere and are sending Mike instead but not for another month! I asked her what was I supposed to do with the dead rat on my garden path, covered with a bucket, and awaiting Vince's attention. She said I would have to deal with it myself either by burying it or wrapping it securely and putting it in a black bag for collection with the refuse. I have done the latter but not before I made it clear that I was not happy with the service I had paid for.
All the beans have come up now. I must get some sticks and another watering can. The water pump nearest to us has been fixed.

Dozens of people were left frustrated and perplexed in a Dorset car park after a mobile coronaviris test centre was nowhere to be seen. After booking appointment slots for a facility in Blandford listed on the government’s online portal on Friday evening, residents made the trip to Marsh and Ham car park in West Street on Saturday. But instead of a test facility, they found a number of confused people in their cars, who had expected to get tested. Bob Staal, aged 73, decided to stop off at the Creekmoor park and ride test centre to get answers on his way home from North Dorset. He was ushered through the testing process at Creekmoor using his QR code for the Blandford facility. However, the Poole resident the said he was shocked at how quiet it was given the booking portal said no slots were available for the centre that day. Mr Staal, a service engineer who got a test because he had a continuous cough, said: “We turned up at Creekmoor and got told to close the windows. There were a lot of people in yellow jackets. Me and my partner had our tests done, got given a card and off we went.

This photo, which was taken by my nephew David, shows the crew of the yacht Love and War which is being being returned to Sydney after she completed the Sydney to Hobart race in January 2020. David was the skipper and left to right are Bear, Jason and standing, my son Lincoln. They had a choppy time of it crossing the Bass Strait but made it back to Sydney safely.
